Preventive & General Dentistry in West Monroe
The cornerstone to a strong, beautiful smile is good oral health. Every day, your teeth and gums are subjected to crushing pressure, an onslaught from bacteria, and extreme temperature fluctuations. Sticky plaque turns to hard tartar, and combined with decaying food particles, this contributes to cavities, gum disease, and halitosis (bad breath). To maintain optimal oral health, regular checkups and cleanings are essential. Dr. Scott stands by the American Dental Association’s recommendation that you visit the dentist at least twice a year, and more often if directed.
Plan to spend a little over an hour with us at your first visit. After completing registration forms, you’ll be escorted to a treatment room where a dental assistant will help you get comfortable. During your checkup, we will take new X-rays, if necessary. Intraoral photographs will also help us diagnose dental problems. Dr. Scott will inspect your mouth for signs of oral cancer, a disease that claims 7,500 Americans annually. It's now the number six killer of men with cancer. He’ll also inspect each of your teeth for faulty dental work and new concerns. In addition, he’ll assess your jaw joints and occlusion (how top and bottom teeth fit together) for TMJ disorder. After the thorough exam, you’ll sit down with Dr. Scott to review the evidence and discuss his diagnosis. You will be presented with options for treatment, and the dentist will explain his recommendations. If you have questions, please ask. We believe, the more you know and understand about your dental treatment plan, the more confident you’ll feel with your decisions for care.
After your checkup, we will schedule a time for your cleaning. Learn more about dental cleanings and preventive procedures in the following pages:
